Treatment for Back Pain
A wide array of treatments has been explored by people suffering from back pain. Some examples are:
Ice or Heat: The first line of defense. When you injure your back, putting ice on it for 15 minutes at least three or four times a day can help reduce inflammation and swelling. If the symptoms continue for several days using a heating pad for 15 to 20 minutes every two to three hours can be helpful. If the pain has not diminished significantly, it’s time to see a healthcare professional.
Bed Rest: Although taking a short rest may be helpful, too much bed rest after a back injury can actually be detrimental. It could lead to increased stiffness and pain.
Drugs: As a temporary aid, some over-the-counter drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., ibuprofen) or pain relievers can be used and provide some relief. These are not the solution to chronic pain and should not be used indefinitely. Prescriptions drugs also should not be used long term because many have potential serious side effects.
Surgery: This should be the final choice after exploring other treatments. In most cases, back problems can be treated without surgery.
The Chiropractic Approach
The philosophy behind the chiropractic approach is that the body is designed in such a way that it can heal itself. In addition, the objective of chiropractic treatment is to correct and fix the problem; not merely just mask the symptoms. At Fiorini Chiropractic Center in Tallahassee, a treatment plan is designed for a patient’s specific needs using a combination of gentle spinal adjustments, physical therapy, and other non-invasive modalities to rebuild core strength and attain permanent correction.
